Front Porch Face Lift

It's time to start sweeping off the front porch and give it a little love. Sitting out front with my hubby at the end of a hot summer's day with a glass of wine and citronella candles burning makes my heart happy. We have a bright blue house with a bright yellow door so I'm not looking for anything crazy color wise. A few neutral additions will be just perfect.

Do you have a back deck or front porch that could use a little loving? How do you spruce your space up? Last year we went with a patriotic theme on our back deck.

Confessions of a Working Mama | No. 3 |

Forgive me, friends. It's been awhile since my last confession  (first one here). I could have sworn I wrote one in January or February. It has been one crazy and wild school year. This mama is ready for a little R + R this summer. I work year round, but there is definitely a change of pace during the summer months when students aren't in the building and I get more time with my little loves.  Until then, I'm just trying to keep calm + mommy on!
| Sometimes, I only paint my big toenail |

Ain't nobody got time to paint all ten toes! So, during those awkward months in New England when the snow has melted but it's not quite flip flop season I might wear a pair of peek toe shoes. I could stay up late and perfectly polish them all...or I can go to bed and quickly dab some color on the two big ones that will show through right after my shower. Bed always wins. Only my children judge me. "Mama, why you no have more pink toes?" Silly boy.

| I live in Yoga Pants |

Not just any yoga pants. My maternity yoga pants. {Note to reader: I haven't been pregnant for nearly two and a half years} They are just so darn comfy. Anyone else still wear their maternity clothes? Anyone?

| Hot Meals are Hard to Come By |

I may, on occasion, turn a show on for my kiddos while I make dinner. I might also, on such an occasion, eat my meal hot and fresh and in sweet peace and quiet while they finish their show. A mama deserves a hot meal every now and then. Bonus: I do the dishes and kitchen clean up while they eat off paper plates so we get more playtime before bedtime. . .so, technically speaking, I'm doing it for the kids!

My Mommy, My Friend

"A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us: when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our heart."

-Washington Irving

I love you mommy. Thank you for being the beautiful, creative, crazy and unbelievably amazing mama that you are. Thank you for teaching me to be brave, and daring and adventurous {and how to solve quadratic equations}. Thank you for believing in me and loving me and supporting me. Thank you for reminding me how to keep calm, and mommy on.

Sending lots of love over the ocean your way today {literally, dad has a box to give you when his flight lands} and hoping you know how much I miss you and love you and think of you each and every day.

Budget Friendly Gifts

This past week was Teacher Appreciation Week and, in many parts of the country, schools are starting to wind down for the year as staff and students gear up for summer. {Not us. Our last day is June 24. Thank you very much, snow.} Today I'm sharing this summer-ready and budget friendly way of putting together a last minute gift to shower your kiddo's teacher with. Give it to them today or save it for the last day of school.

I actually made these for our amazing secretaries on Administrative Assistant's Day. Everyone in the office contributed their money and trust in me to put something together. You know I love a good theme! So, with the help of one of my besties {who never turns down a trip to Target with me} we came up with these goody-filled beverage dispensers. Our secretaries are handed "lemons" every day but they always seem to be able to make lemonade! Inside each container was:

dish towel
lemon scented candle
paper straws
fun plastic cup
lemonade mix
nail file

I know, I know. You are probably wondering what the heck nail files have to do with drinking lemonade. They were Lilly Pulitzer. I couldn't resist. And besides, I can totally picture myself sitting in the hot sun, sipping some lemonade, filing my nails.

I picked up some shredded packaging paper in white and yellow at the dollar store and for just under $25 {each} I had the perfect gift! This would also be excellent as a hostess gift, surprise for your mother in law, co-worker's birthday party or for your new neighbor down the street.

The only problem with making such cute things is that you'll end up wanting to keep one for yourself!
