DIY Flower Decorations

I first learned how to make these beautiful decorations last year when I helped my friend Jill make several in pink, peach and white for her wedding. I've been itching to make my own ever since and what better occasion than my sweet little girl's 3rd birthday? These purple, pink & green crepe paper spheres will be the perfect addition to her enchanted birthday brunch coming up next weekend.

Supplies

styrofoam spheres
streamers
hot glue gun

(all of these can be found at your local craft store)

Directions

1. Cut streamers into 5-10 inch strip depending on size of sphere. The larger the styrofoam sphere the larger the strip of paper should be. You might have to play around with the size you use.

2. Fold paper in half lengthwise

3. Scrunch one end into a small ball and begin to wrap the long end around and around

4. Place the styrofoam into a bowl or on top of a cup to hold in place

5. Begin gluing flowers onto the styrofoam as close to each one as you can to avoid gaps

What a great (and super cheap) idea that adds a big tough to any special occasion. Thanks Jill!
(And special shout out to my friend Katy for coming over for a crafting night!)

Picnics & Parades

In addition to taking the time to honor and remember the brave men & women who serve our beautiful country this Memorial Day we took advantage of the long weekend and capitalized on the extra family time. Saturday and Sunday were a wash but the sun came out on Monday and we hit up our local parade and then headed to the waterfront for a picnic in the park.

100 Days

I've never been one for New Year's Resolutions...mostly because my yearly calendar has really only ever been based on the school year calendar so I tend to set new goals for myself in late August. This year I'm shaking things up a bit!

I have been challenged to stay away from Target for 100 days! Yes, you heard me correctly, no Tar-jay for 100 days! I cannot set foot in, purchase online from, or pay others to shop on my behalf from my beloved store.

What is the point of all this? Well, first off it will certainly cushion my bank account. Secondly, if I'm not careful my entire house will look like a Target commercial with all of the new Threshold line products I keep picking up. And finally, no one thinks I can do it. And we all know I don't like to lose! So, bring it on. I accept this challenge! Day one was Saturday, May 25th. Day 100 (assuming I counted properly) is September 1. It is going to be a looooong summer (especially when my shopaholic mama is here!).

Anyone else silly enough to be up for the challenge?

Knock, knock...

...Who's there?

With the exception of a few exterior items our house was completed in late March. Now that the weather has finally turned for the better our builder has been in touch to complete some of the remaining projects. First up...the front door!

Sean and I continue to debate what color to paint it. We both love the color yellow, but I'm afraid of over committing. And, how will a yellow door fit in with my holiday decor come December? Should we stay plain Jane and paint it white (its currently stock ivory) or jazz it up a bit with a bold bright, dark blue or black? This is our doorway now:

Here are some ideas I've found on Pinterest
(original sources unknown - let me know if you do!):

Girly Girl or Tomboy?

Addie and I have a tea party pretty much every afternoon with her dolls, Mason and occasionally Uncle T. So today when I offered to have a REAL tea party with her she could not contain her excitement (Neither could I...I love my little girly girl). We brewed up some hot chocolate and sipped away. Addie even has the pinky up!

Just as my girly girl changed into a pretty party dress Daddy came home with a car from work (1955 300SL Mercedes Gullwing) and out the door she ran to check it out!

She is every bit her mama & daddy!

4 Months Old

Our little man is growing up way too quickly! At his check up yesterday he measured almost 27 inches...3 inches taller than Addie was at 4 months! Yet, the doctor said he is still underweight for his age, but a tall boy indeed!

Here's a little collage of some of the cuter pictures from his most recent photo shoot. He is definitely mama's little snuggle bug! Loving every minute with this little guy...And of course, I love my big girl too! She is such a good bug sister and enjoys taking Mase for walks around the neighborhood.

Happy Mother's Day!

I'm excited to share with you that my goal of turning my blog hobby into more of a "mom blog" are coming to a reality! Over the next two months you'll start to notice some changes to my blog as I take the next steps. What better day than Mother's Day to share this great news? I needed something uplifting...I'm currently spending my Mother's Day weekend with a house full of pink eye, fevers, coughs, allergies and severe lack of sleep!

What are you doing to celebrate Mother's day? How are you being pampered today? Were you totally prepared for the special woman in your life? I had every good intention of getting something crafty together from me and the kiddos but the day snuck up on me and I'm now empty handed. Here are my top picks for last minute, but completely thoughtful, gifts for mom:

1. Give her a subscription to Birch Box. I've been getting these adorable pink boxes in the mail now for over a year. You can choose a 3, 6, or 12 month subscription to the latest makeup, skincare, and fashion trends. Each box contains sample sizes of the hottest items around. I love being able to try out new moisturizers, perfumes, or nail polish without having to spend money on a large bottle that I end up not liking.  Last minute gift? Not to worry...a gift redemption code is emailed immediately after check-out!

Hand-picked beauty and lifestyle samples, delivered to your door for $10/month.

2. What mom wouldn't appreciate some time to curl up on the couch to watch a chick flick? Why not give her a subscription to Netflix? I love that I can stream movies and shows for me or the kids on my phone, iPad, computer or through the Wii. You can choose any number of months and again, it can be emailed or printed right after you pay. Print the coupon and you can throw together a bowl and bags of popcorn for a cute movie themed bouquet.

3. Does mom love to shop? Most stores offer e-gift cards these days. Visit your mom's favorite store website for more details. The great thing about this is that mom gets the gift right away. Bonus if you live nearby and can join in on the shopping fun as well!

Happy Mother's Day to all of you amazing and wonderful mamas out there, especially mine! I only dream about becoming half the mama my mom is. She is the most amazing woman I know and I continue to learn from her each and every day. Thank you for being so amazing mom. I love you! (P.S. Your card & gift are going to be late this year!)

Remember, if you haven't already, subscribe to my blog via email and stay tuned for so much more to come!

love & hugs,
M

Feels Like Spring!

The weather is finally a bit more spring-like, though a recent check of the forecast shows rain again for a few days. We have been taking advantage of the sunshine and spending our afternoons outside. I'm loving my sub 2 minute commute and really appreciate the time I now have to spend with the kiddos after work. Since we still do not have grass we spend a lot of time just hanging out in the driveway or on the back deck. Addie loves her giant canvas and had a blast with her new chalks from Oma. Uncle T spends time with Addie riding bikes too...and Mason, well he's just happy wherever he is!

There have been many nights when I've had to take work home with me...bummer. But, when Sean has to  "take work home" we all get to enjoy it! Last night we got to take a spin in a 1966 Mercedes something or other...(err, sorry Sean!)

Weekend Fun

Gone are the days when weekends are for resting and catching up...it seems like each one gets busier than the last! We kicked off our weekend with a little craft project. Addie is really into Tinkerbell & the fairies so we made our own little fairy house for her "friends" to come and stay in.

I had a retirement party that went late into the night on Friday but that didn't stop us from getting up early on Saturday to head into the city to cheer for Aunt Kate in her road race. It was a beautiful morning to spend in the city. Later that night we headed out to catch the spring play over at the high school. I have to admit, I love my new commute!

Finally, Sunday we were honored to help celebrate Kara's First Communion. Addie just loves going over to her friend's house. Here is a shot of her and Sophia - love these girls!

Mason is already a ladies man...it was nice having so many little helpers!

All tuckered out...phew, what a weekend!
